Classical realism in Blue Ridge, Va.

Christopher (b.1970) was born in Roanoke, Virginia. After leaving high school 1989, he fought in a war - traveling the world, and the Seven Seas. While in Europe he visited churches and museums where he saw masterpieces painted in oil in the classical tradition - some of which were very old and insanely beautiful. Upon returning home - and being inspired by such extravagant beauty - he bought some raggedy brushes, a cheap set of oil paints, and started working with Caravaggio, Titian, Rembrandt, and Odd Nerdrum books open next to a blank canvas.

In the 90's Christopher apprenticed under the late Debbie Camden (Hollins University) and in the mid- 2000's under the late Elizabeth Gilkeson (West Surrey College of Art and Design, U.K.).  Although primarily a self-taught artist he has received invaluable insight from artists and teachers such as Luke Hillestad, Juliette Aristedes, and William Martin.   Christopher paints in the Kitsch manner with a focus on post contemporary and classical realism. He lives in Botetourt County, Virginia.
